Pronouncing Death
- Identify patient by arm tag
- Non-rousible to verbal/tactile stimuli
- Ausculate for heart sounds, feel for carotid pulse
- Look, listen for respiration sounds
- Record position of pupils reaction to light
- Record time assessment completed as the time of death
- Document: Was called to pronounce Mr. X dead. Patient unresponsive to (list #1- 6 above).
- Notify patient’s Attending Physician, Family Physician, and next of kin
